Certain foods like hot dogs, raisins, grapes, goldfish crackers, snacks, nuts and even small pieces of napkin can get caught in the throat of a kid thus obstructing their airway. Balloons are a main cause of airway obstruction.

Falls - Pad all furnishings with sharp edges or corners. Pad or gate off the fireplace and hearth. A gate (not a pressure gate) must be used at the top & bottom of the staircase. Second story walkways with short railings must have tall pieces of plexiglass attached to prevent climbing over. Plexiglass should be applied to the railings of outside balconies also.

Drowning - Children could drown in as little as 1-inch of water! Use a child fence around your pool and alarm all doors leading to the pool. Use toilet lid locks on all toilets, also use door top locks to prevent the kid from entering the bathroom unsupervised. Never leave you child unattended in the bathtub, if for some reason you need to leave the bathroom, take the baby with you.

All the things you do to aid keep your child safe provide an extra element of security, there's no substitution for adult supervision. Also please, take an approved baby and child CPR course.
