This New EBook Book Reader Manufactured By The Computer Giants Acer Inc. In Line To Join Kindle

Acer, the computer giant., no slouch when it comes to competing in the personal computer space, have announced their plans to enter the ebook book reader arena later this year.

Acer executive Jim Wong, president of the companies IT Products group, outlined the plans through an interview with Bloomberg at Acer's headquaters in Taipei.

On the eve of Apple's purported entry into the tablet sweeps-a device that will serve electronic-book readers in addition to others-Wong also said the company will also offer "hundreds" of apps online, programs which will support Google's Android platform, now running on a number of Acer products, as well as supporting Microsoft's Windows OS.

By July, Acer will be expected to make available an e-book reader with a 6-inch black and white screen, Mr. Wong told Bloomberg. "Amazon and Barnes & Noble; they are US based. In Western Europe and Asia-Pacific we have publishers to work with, and most of them are content owners," he maintained. Acer will go up against devices including the Kindle , B and N Inc.'s Nook and Sony's Reader and so it will be easy to compare ebook reader models.

Acer also has the Apple "iSlate"-if it emerges-in its sights. "We are developing something, and we will see what happens" J.T. Wang, Acer's CEO, said in the report. "We're going to perform either in the Windows world or in Google's definite OS space."
